Fire Detection & Suppression

The codes developed by the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) are widely considered as the preferred standard for fire detection and suppression systems. Fire detection systems utilize various devices to quickly identify the occurrence of a fire. These may include ionization/photoelectric, photoelectric, ionization, and heat detectors.

A fully integrated fire detection system may also have the capability of controlling air handling equipment within a building to prevent the further spread of a fire. Detection systems are commonly coupled with suppression systems for special fire fighting applications such as where sensitive equipment needs to be protected.

Speciality fire suppression systems may utilize special agents such as chemical agents, water mist, CO2 and inert gas. Other common forms of fire suppression include wet automatic sprinkler systems, dry pipe systems, foam systems and deluge systems.
