Due to the infectious nature of medical wastes (both solid & liquid), special equipment is utilized for treatment before disposal. A conventional but effective method of treatment of bacteriological, laboratory, sharps and other bio-medical wastes is incineration. Incinerators produce small amounts of disposable waste per batch processed but must meet local environmental standards for air quality. Automated shredders and steam sterilizers are quickly growing in popularity for bio-medical waste treatment.

This technology complies with WHO’s recommendations and yields an inert waste product that can be disposed of in a solid waste landfill. Where there is a requirement to treat a liquid waste steam emanating from laboratories, mortuaries, etc. a customized disinfection & neutralization system is used whereby chemical treatment is done to ensure infectious biological substances are not discharged into the sewerage treatment system.
